I am excited to share with you a new quilt pattern I designed called “Winter Waltz” for McCall’s Quilting. The design was inspired by a poem I came across by Virginia Logsdon called “The Frost On My Window Pane. As an Island Batik designer I used the beautiful array of blues from the Glacier Bay collection designed by Kathy Engle.
The Frost On My Window Pane
The frost on my window pane, its
fragile beauty with warmth will wane.
Its designs are thin and swirly
some are quite “other worldly”
shapes of beautiful stars are there
softly beckoning my taken stare!
Others are shaped like various flowers
I could look for hours and hours!
It’s wonderful-beautiful and magic too
these lovely designs in soft white hue!
Designed by the master architect
I am quite mesmerized-still yet
Each masterpiece is frosty white
mystical and magical in crystallized light!
Each designed intricately by the unseen hand of
the master painter of each and every land!
As each design forms and crystallizes,
my taken stare it mesmerizes!
Detail of Winter Waltz
The background fabric used to make this quilt is Egg White from Island Batik’s basic foundations. The quilt finishes to 51″ x 51″. It can be used as a Winter wall hanging quilt or a warm, cozy quilt to snuggle up in on a cold winter’s day.
The foundation paper-pieced blocks finish to 12 inches square and are set on-point to create snow flakes falling in a snow storm of white.
The pattern for this quilt is available in the McCall’s Quilting November/December 2021
This beautiful foundation paper pieced pattern can be downloaded as a PDF from Quilting Daily
